Taking a vacation is the best way to improve the health of the mind, body and soul as it helps alleviate the accumulated stress our busy lives bring.
But bear in mind, sudden changes of the weather and the environment may put a lot of stress on the organism, which may cause a decreased immune system and slowed metabolism.
This is why it’s important to take care of yourself even before going on vacations, as you wouldn’t want to spend your time-off on stopping a runny nose.
Planning some of the things you may want to do on your vacation beforehand can help you avoid a lot of headaches and stressful moments that may shake up things, so grab your notebook and take some of my advices on how to stay healthy during your break.
- Sleep, sleep, sleep
I know, I know. Who wants to sleep during their two weeks off when all you want to do is go everywhere and see everything? Well, taking a step back and nodding off in the afternoon may pay off after your vacation is over. Plus, you won’t feel as drowsy and exhausted during your nights out.
Regular sleep helps maintain the mental and physical health, as this is the time your body gets a chance to recharge, boosting your daytime performance and keeping your emotional wellbeing.
- Fruits and veggies are your best friends
Do you ever wonder why you go straight for the candy after a long day? Even if you bear best intentions on mind, when you’re starving your instinct immediately tells you to grab the quickest source of energy. And that’s usually chocolate and soda.
This is where planning ahead comes in handy: pack an apple or two, dried cranberries or a bag full of nuts every time you get out of the house and munch on whenever you feel hungry.
Also, try eating as much salads as you can, as your body needs plenty of vitamins and minerals to keep your metabolism and immune system intact. You’ll thank me later.
- Stay hydrated
Drinking a lot of water is crucial in staying healthy during your vacations, as dehydration can cause you migraines, nausea and fatigue.
Staying hydrated is imperative to keep your energy and wellbeing, so make sure to pack a bottle of water whenever you go out to your adventures.
- Meditation, light exercises and stretching
A long day of walking and sightseeing might take its toll on your feet and back, and the last thing you’d want to be doing is going home even more tired and stressed out than before going on vacation.
This is why it’s important to take care of yourself and put your health and wellbeing first, no matter where you are and where you’re going. Take a step back to reflect on yourself and breathe the stress out with a simple 5 minute meditation.
After you’ve put your mind and soul in a proper state, start stretching your muscles all the way from your neck to your feet with slow motions. Once you got that covered, you’re ready to go and seize the next adventure!
