Lavender essential oil has been praised as one of the most potent and healing oils in the world of aromatherapy, and I agree with all of the buzz! Not only does this rich aromatic oil helps soothe migraines and reduce nervous exhaustion, it’s also great for the skin and hair, too!
Lavender essential oil is made by distilling the flowers of the lavender plant. The best Lavender essential oil originates from the region of Provence in France, which is famous for the Lavender-infused skin and hair care products. Fantastic Lavender is also being grown in Bulgaria.
Beside using it as a natural air-refresher, I’ve found so many different ways of incorporating Lavender essential oil into my lifestyle. Here are some ways you I use this oil and get the most out of its healing properties.
- Aromatherapy
Nothing seems to balance the atmosphere better than diffusing a few drops of Lavender essential oil. The mild sedative properties of this oil help reduce stress levels and improve mental clarity, so it’s perfect for loosening up a tense atmosphere. Massaging 2-3 drops of this oil on the temples and jawline helps alleviate minor migraines and headaches, so I always keep it on-hand at my desk at work. If you’re having problems falling asleep, diffuse 5 drops of the oil in the bedroom 30 minutes before you go to sleep or apply 2-3 drops on your pillow.
- Skin rejuvenation
The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of Lavender essential oil are the main reasons why it is an essential ingredient in many skincare products, especially the ones that target acne-prone skin. After washing my face with a cleanser, I like applying 1-2 drops of Lavender essential oil on a cotton pad and cleanse the whole face. After doing this for 2 weeks, my skin has drastically improved, as it helped balance the oiliness and it prevented the premenstrual breakouts I always get around my chin.
- Insect repellent
I’ve always been curious why my mother always kept a pouch with dry lavender in her wardrobe, and it immediately clicked once I started researching about the various uses of Lavender essential oil. Turns out, not only does the rich aroma of Lavender help repel clothes moths, but it’s also quite effective in keeping ants away from the kitchen cabinet. I’ve upgraded my mom’s way of protecting the clothes by applying 10 drops of Lavender essential oil on a cotton cloth and placing it in the wardrobe. As a bonus, it also keeps the clothes smelling fresh and clean for a longer period of time.
