Using essential oils is the easiest way to relax and unwind, lightening up the atmosphere while purifying the air from bacteria. This is where essential oil diffusers come in handy, as they help get the most out of essential oils by transforming the atmosphere in your living space.
A key to a long-lasting use of essential oil diffusers is a regular maintenance of the device, so if you’re an avid user of essential oils just like me, then you better make sure you are keeping it clean and it is ready for the next use.
Most manuals will tell you to clean the diffuser after each use, and that makes sense, especially after using it with thicker oils like Sandalwood or Patchouli essential oil. But in actuality, cleaning the device once a week is completely fine, too.
I prefer to do a quick-cleaning after each use by adding fresh water into the water container and letting it run for 2-3 minutes, then discarding the water and wiping the container with a clean cloth. This helps remove any excess oils that may have stuck on the walls of the water container.
However, a thorough cleaning of the device is a must in order to keep it in good shape, and this is how I do it quickly and effectively.
First, fill up the water container halfway through, but make sure the water level is below the max line. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar into the container, turn on the diffuser and let it work for 5-10 minutes. The water-vinegar mixture helps dissolve oil build-ups and removes the gunk that may have formed from regular use.
Empty the water container, soak a piece of cloth in white vinegar and thoroughly wipe the inside of the container, making sure the corners and the sensor are squeaky clean.
For the last step, fill the container with clean water once again and turn the diffuser on for another 2-3 minutes. Discard the water, wipe the inside of the container with a dry cotton cloth and voila – you’re done.
Now, fill it up with water, add your favorite essential oil and enjoy the serene atmosphere it creates!
