Ranked Best to Worst
Over the last six months, we have tested and reviewed several different popular hair growth oils to see which one was the best and produced the most results. We systematically examined well-known brands, including REVIVE Essential Oils, OGX, Mielle, and several others, and here’s our official ranking from best to worst. Some of the factors that went into our rating system were results, price, and ease of purchase.
And the winner is…
REVIVE Essential Oils calls this 15-in-1 oil blend a “blowout in a bottle” or “self care for your hair,” and that could not be more accurate. After just a few weeks of using this blend prior to washing my hair each evening, I could see and feel a difference in the overall health of my hair. I noticed hair growing in all around my hairline and parting with wayyy more baby hairs than usual. It took me about a month to see the difference in hair growth but there were a lot of other unexpected benefits that were noticeable after just one wash. My hair was so much softer and shinier plus my scalp was no longer itchy and dry!
One thing that sets Healthy Hair far above the rest is its perfectly balanced essential oils and carrier oils. Carrier oils are a must for safe and effective application of essential oils to your skin, and Healthy Hair contains 7 of them! This helps ensure that your scalp is properly absorbing the treatment while protecting your skin and avoiding irritation. According to REVIVE, they formulated the essential oils in this blend to target consumers that struggle with heavy hair loss like alopecia and also those simply wanting to better the overall health of their hair. Rosemary is one of the top ingredients in this blend, and this powerhouse essential oil takes the cake when it comes to boosting hair growth!
Healthy Hair gets 5 stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! By using this blend regularly, I have replaced over $100 worth of product with this one simple $29 bottle of Healthy Hair. The smell is also very therapeutic and creates an amazing aromatherapy experience when washing it out in a hot, steamy shower.. I felt more confident in the product quality and ingredients because of how transparent REVIVE is with their testing and test results!
2. Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Hair Oil
Coming in second place is the Mielle Rosemary Mint Hair Oil. This product had a lot in common with REVIVE’s healthy hair. We loved the heavy use of essential oils, the lack of any sulfates or parabens and the addition of biotin which is a very popular vitamin for hair and skin. However, we felt that the ingredient list had some obscure items on it and didn’t feel as natural clocking in at over 30 items. When there’s a laundry list of ingredients like this there is less likelihood that there’s enough potency for each ingredient to actually have an impact and product results. There is also more potential for skin and scalp irritation which I personally experienced and read about in many of the customer reviews.
I’m giving this product 3.5 stars because the price is phenomenal (only $9.99!) and the selection of essential oils is wonderful but ultimately I didn’t feel like I could trust every ingredient in this more complex formula. My scalp felt tight and itchy after use and I decided it wasn’t worth the risk of using over a prolonged period.
Our third place pick is the popular Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment. While this hair treatment may be one of the best smelling treatments out there, unfortunately we could not get behind the less than stellar list of ingredients that make up this oil treatment. The first ingredient in the list is cyclomethicone, a popular silicone used in cosmetics. While this ingredient can cause irritation for the eyes and skin, the main concern is that it is known to cause hormone disruption, harm marine life, and is toxic to the reproductive system.
We were also appalled to see that this product contained dyes specifically: CI 26100 (RED 17), CI 47000 (YELLOW 11). Most artificial dyes are quite harmful to our bodies and nervous systems and should be avoided.
Overall, we give this oil treatment 2 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐. The only things we like are the smell and the “light” version that was specifically made for gray/blonde hair.
As one of the most popular and easiest to access, OGX’s Argan Oil of Morocco pretty much began the trend of hair oiling for scalp and growth treatments. Unfortunately, while it did gain quick popularity by being accessible in almost all drug stores, its ingredients have been its ultimate downfall.
The first and second ingredients are known derivatives of silicone and, in our opinion, should not be found in cosmetics. Dimethicone and Isopropyl Myristate can be quite drying to the scalp causing your scalp to produce more oil than necessary. This, in turn, can clog your pores and produce oil build-up in your hair.
Not only are the ingredients in this oil treatment quite bad, there are essentially no good or helpful ingredients. Unfortunately, this oil treatment does not even contain “argan oil of morocco” like the name would suggest and because of this, we can only give this product 2 stars ⭐⭐. We can safely say that there is not one aspect of this product that is likable.
5. Kate Blanc Cosmetics – Castor Oil
In our last place is the Castor Oil treatment from Kate Blanc cosmetics. While the ingredients themselves are clean since it is strictly 100% castor oil, we personally found the treatment to be quite cumbersome for the lack of results provided.
All in all, castor oil is a relatively “heavy” oil and is messy and difficult to work with. Because of this, it can tend to leave hair greasy if it is not washed out thoroughly. We found that we needed to shampoo at least 3 times in order to completely rid ourselves of the castor oil. After 6 months of trying this out, we decided that there were little to no results.
For those reasons, this oil does take the bottom spot of our list earning it a 1-star rating from us ⭐.
In summary:
#2 Mielle Rosemary & Mint Treatment
#5 Kate Blanc Castor Oil Treatment

I have been using this product for about 10 weeks now. I started using it a couple times a week and now I just use it once a week! My scalp used to be a mess – it was dry and flaky. It was always a gamble wearing a black shirt. I tried many things then figured I’d try Healthy Hair. Literally right away the itching stopped and at my first haircut my hairdresser noticed! She then went and bought some!! If that isn’t a rave review I don’t know what is
